If you love fancy fold cards that look impressive but are surprisingly achievable, this Double Z Fold Birthday Card with Valley in Bloom is for you! In my recent live, I created this beautiful layered birthday card using the Valley in Bloom Suite from Stampin’ Up!, and it’s the perfect way to showcase those stunning designer papers.
Why You’ll Love This Double Z Fold Card
This fold is all about dimension, movement, and maximising your designer series paper. While it may look complex, it’s actually a series of simple folds layered together to create a striking effect.
What I love most:
- It highlights multiple patterns from one paper pack
- Creates a gorgeous cascading effect when opened
- Perfect for special occasions like birthdays
- Great for using up coordinating paper strips
And let’s be honest—the Valley in Bloom papers do most of the work for you!

Featured Products: Valley in Bloom Suite
For this card, I used the stunning Lily of the Valley Bundle, part of the upcoming Valley in Bloom Suite. This collection is full of soft florals, fresh greens, and artistic washes that make every project feel like a little piece of garden art.
Key elements used:
- Lily of the Valley stamps & dies (with bonus dies—always a win!)
- Valley in Bloom Designer Series Paper
- Luxe White Specialty Paper (beautiful for blending and embossing)
- Shimmering dots for that subtle sparkle
- Stampin’ Blends for soft, blended colouring
The colour palette includes:
Coastal Cabana, Blackberry Bliss, Garden Green, Granny Apple Green, Lemon Lime Twist, Darling Duckling and more—such a fresh and vibrant combination!

Card Design Tips
1. Let Your Paper Guide You
Instead of cutting randomly, I cut my panels from one section of the DSP so the design flows seamlessly across the card. This makes the finished project look cohesive and professional.
2. Mix Your Blends for Depth
Don’t feel limited to light and dark of one colour. I combined:
- Granny Apple Green
- Lemon Lime Twist
- Highland Heather
This creates a more natural, artistic look, especially for the leaves and florals.
3. Keep the Base Lightweight
Because this card has multiple layers, I used Basic White cardstock (not thick) to avoid bulk. This keeps the folds neat and manageable.
4. Build in Layers
When assembling:
- Only adhere sections where needed (so the card can still fold properly)
- Tuck elements under panels for dimension
- Add die cuts in clusters for a “garden” feel

Purple Textured Birthday Card
This elegant birthday card features the Lily of the Valley Bundle layered over a rich, textured purple background. The embossed effect, created using a stencil-style technique, adds depth and interest while the hand-coloured leaves in soft greens bring a natural contrast. A delicate die-cut trellis sits subtly behind the florals, adding dimension without overwhelming the design. Finished with a bold black “Happy Birthday” sentiment and a scattering of shimmer embellishments, this card is a beautiful balance of texture, colour, and simplicity.

These soft and delicate friendship cards showcase the versatility of the Valley in Bloom Suite with a lighter, more minimalist approach. Featuring a circular focal point with gentle blended backgrounds in pastel tones, each card highlights the intricate lily of the valley die cuts in crisp white. The subtle patterned background adds interest without distraction, while the sentiment “To a forever kind of friend” creates a heartfelt focal point.
