Looking for creative Paper Pumpkin alternatives? In this week’s live, I created a masculine birthday card using the April 2026 Lakeside Retreat Paper Pumpkin Kit and tried the trending Double Vision Technique for the very first time — and I absolutely love the depth and dimension it creates!
This card combines the beautiful scenic imagery from the kit with layered strips to create a striking 3D effect that looks far more complicated than it actually is. If you love finding new ways to stretch your kits and create unique handmade cards, this technique is definitely worth trying.
What is the Double Vision Technique?
The Double Vision Technique is a fun cardmaking technique where a scenic image is cut into strips and raised using foam adhesive to create extra depth and movement. It works especially well with landscape scenes like the gorgeous lakeside artwork in this Paper Pumpkin kit.
For this card, I used:
- The scenic lakeside image from the kit
- Foam adhesive strips for dimension
- Extra die cuts from the kit
- Stamped birds and cattails for added detail
- Pecan Pie cardstock matting
- Elements trimmed from one of the coordinating envelopes
The finished effect gives the illusion of looking through layered panels into the scene — almost like a little window view of the beach.

Stretching Your Paper Pumpkin Supplies
One of my favourite things about Paper Pumpkin kits is how easy they are to turn into alternative projects. Instead of only creating the designed cards, I love using the leftover pieces, envelopes, embellishments, and die cuts to make something completely different.
For this project, I:
- Used one of the woodgrain card bases
- Cut apart one of the patterned envelopes for extra designer paper
- Added the adorable bicycle, life jacket, and oars embellishments
- Used the “Older. Wiser. Better.” sentiment from the kit
The embellishments that look like little river stones were the perfect finishing touch!
Tips for Creating This Card
1. Don’t Press Too Hard with Fine Photopolymer Stamps
When stamping detailed images like the birds, use a light touch. Pressing too firmly can make the image spread and lose detail.
2. Foam Adhesive Strips Work Best
Foam strips are ideal for this technique because they support the narrow image panels evenly and stop them sagging.
3. Use Every Part of Your Kit
Don’t forget the envelopes! Many Paper Pumpkin envelopes feature beautiful printed designs that can be trimmed down and reused on cards.
4. Scenic Images Create the Best Depth
Landscape scenes work beautifully with the Double Vision Technique because the layered strips naturally enhance perspective and dimension.
